SmartNews is a news curation app that allows for offline reading on iOS and Android devices
My first exposure to the SmartNews app came in September at the Online News Association annual conference in Chicago. SmartNews had a booth to promote their US launch (which happened in October). The app curates trending articles from social media in a variety of categories and carries stories from Buzzfeed and Bleacher Report to The Huffington Post and the Washington Post.
One of the features of SmartNews that sets it apart from other news apps is that it allows readers to continuing reading articles in low bandwidth areas like subways and airplanes. This is possible because SmartNews preloads stories to the app three times a day. When you install the app, you can tell it which times of day you’d like your news delivered. I set mine for 4 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
SmartNews is free and definitely a news app to check out, especially if you are headed to #nhsjc this week and have some time to pass on a plane.
SmartNews is available for iOS and Android.
