Using Aurasma App to Create a “Harry Potter” Type Paper Experience

This past issue, The Little Hawk tried using the Aurasma app to link photos to videos or create an ugmented reality, virtual reality or a magical “Harry Potter” type experience.

Attached is a video how-to the students made on how it works. Basically, a person downloads the app, scans an image with Aurasma purple triangle by it and a video starts playing. It is similar to a QR code with a few differences. The biggest is that you can scan a nice looking image instead of a QR code. If done right it will also make it seem as though the image starts talking right off the page like a “Harry Potter” newspaper.

Videos are hosted on the Aurasma site. A person does need to download the app, make an account and follow the publications account for it to work. Videos also must be under 100 MB and usually 30 seconds to 1 minute in length.

Reaction was overwhelmingly positive. I honestly have never seen a newspaper have the WOW effect that this past issue with Aurasma triggered. The Little Hawk editors are planning more Aurasma in future issues.

As I was jaimmn’ to some music in my car yesterday and the sun was setting I thought about this and how life is so much better if we notice the things we enjoy, rather than the negatives. Thanks girl.
