The New York Times Learning Network offers a real-life editorial opportunity

Students and teams of students can write on topics that matter to them, and potentially earn online publication in The Learning Network (Teaching and Learning with the New York Times).

It’s a neat, real-life opportunity that can go far beyond the March 17, 2014 deadline.

The link to the first-ever contest also provides a rubric that teachers can use long after the contest is over.
