Digital Photography and Photo Editing
IMPORTANT: Students must provide a digital SLR camera (one allowing the user to set shutter speed, aperture, ISO) that allows the photographer to change lenses, a card reader or cords to download photos to the computers, camera user manual, and a flash/jump drive to store photos on. The tools may change, but the goals remain the same: storytelling with a camera. Students taking this course will learn to use the latest digital technology using digital SLR cameras to research, photograph and edit in-depth photo stories and stand alone images. This course emphasizes a true photojournalistic approach: “Truth with a camera.” The course will cover techniques for shooting in a variety of situations typical of the high school journalism assignment, including: academic coverage, sports, activities and news. Techniques for using Adobe Photoshop to correct and print images will also be covered.
