Digital Media Courses:

Writing for Media” (Convergence Writing) – From print to web to blogs and everything in between.What’s the one thing newspapers, TV/video, websites, social media and blogs have in common? WRITING. This class will teach you how to write for various media and explore all the different ways to get your message out there. We’re not talking texting, but well-written, credible news and information.Taught by Yvette Walker, The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, OK

New Media Convergence” – Students will explore multimedia reporting and how those tools can be used to tell a more complete story. We will discuss changes in the media environment and learn the kinds of skills many newsrooms expect from new hires. Students will learn to quickly shoot video, take audio, make still photographs and edit them together to emphasize different aspects of a story. Materials: 4 AA Batteries, 2GB SD card, 60 minute miniDV tape, Headphones. Taught by Quinton Smith, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO


Aaron Manfull

Aaron is in his 26th year of advising student media. He is currently the Director of Student Media at Francis Howell North High School in St. Charles, Missouri. He is the Journalism Education Association Digital Media Chair and co-Director of Media Now. He is the 2023 JEA Teacher Inspiration Award Winner and is a former Dow Jones News Fund National Journalism Teacher of the Year. He is one of the authors of the textbook "Student Journalism and Media Literacy." You can find him on X and Instagram @manfull. He's a proud father. A transplanted Iowan. And an avid Hawkeye Fan.
