[Handout] – Getting a URL and Hosting Package

This is a screenshot of the Handout on URL/Web hosting setup

Looking to get started with building a Web site? Getting your name and deciding where your site should be hosted (where the files will live) is one of the first steps you need to consider. This handout helps walk you through the steps of choosing a URL and finding the right host.

Starting out with a new Web site can be a bit of a daunting task as there is quite a bit to figure out. One of the first steps you should do is choose a URL for your site. Choosing a good URL is very important as that is how visitors will find you. This handout has a few tips on how to choose a good URL, where you can go to see if the one you want is available and where you can purchase your name.

Naming is only part of it though as you will need hosting space for your site and all the files. This handout talks you through a few pros and cons for hosting on your district server as opposed to having a third party, like Godaddy.com, host it. Web resources are noted with hyperlinks in this PDF file.
